Studs Terkel: Patron saint of podcasting

I have been reading (and listening) to “Talking to Myself” by Studs Terkel and I think the podcasting community should adopt him as their patron saint and role model.

Terkel famously carried around a tape recorder and captured the voices of people from around the world, producing a rich treasure trove of oral history.

Listen to how he weaves his subject’s voices into his memory of their conversations.

As Terkel said, “I am a neo-cartesian. I tape therefore I am.” Time will tell if podcasting will leave us with a rich repository of oral histories. I sure hope so.
