One of my obsessions – notebooks

I have a few obsessions (rangefinders, Tri-x film, fountain pens, steel-framed bikes, and more…). One of them is notebooks. I’m not hard-wired to be organized, but I have been into GTD for years and over time have modified it to suit my needs. I love Moleskine notebooks and use several variations. Awhile back I ran across a post about the Dot Grid Book from Behance and I ordered one. I like the heavy paper and the subdued dot grid. It is great for taking notes and the subtle grid provides a ready canvas for your sketches, process diagrams or book layouts. I just ordered two more and they came in the mail yesterday. What are your favorite note taking tools?

Dad, do you have a copy of GTD? I am totally re-organizing our filing system and general procedures at work with the help of someone who is a GTD sort of gal. I think I’d like to read it so I can stay on the same page with her.

Favorite Note Taking Tools: You can’t forget Levenger as a source of all tools useful. Their lined paper with a side margin is the best note-taking paper. It organizes my thoughts the way they exist in my brain. Plus, the paper is super smooth to write on. No more stacking sheets of paper to get your pen to work right. Other than that, I’m never without my small, grid-lined Moleskine. It’s just the right size and I love the pocket in the back. You started me on both of these obsessions…

Also, please note the office space stapler in that picture…my mom got that for him. ; )

‘fountain pens’ !?

Who’d thought it?

My handwriting is atrocious so in some subconscious way I think a nice, weighty fountain pen will improve it. But it is still chicken scratch. At least I am consistent in my obsessions. I like shooting film in all metal rangefinder cameras that were designed over 50 years ago. And they still work.

I have the book and will send it to you along with a birthday gift (surprise, surprise). Along with the red stapler you may also notice the pocket knife. It is an Opinel from France. Cheap, made since the 1890’s, they have not changed much. I like to eat apples in my office with a knife.

That pocket knife always reminds me of Hemingway for some reason…
