Capturing ideas

I have used a variety of tools over the years to capture those fleeting thoughts and bits of information that stream through my mind and across my desk every day.

Here’s my current setup:

* Moleskine notebooks – I keep a pocket version with me at all times. When I am at my computer I dump my notes into my IdeaMiner Wiki.

* IdeaMiner as wiki – I ran across the IdeaMiner Journal awhile back and downloaded the text version. I liked the headings and originally thought that it would be easy to capture information if I kept this open in emacs. But I decided it would be more useful as a wiki so I edited the headings a bit and then converted it to a set of interlinked wiki pages. I like the ability to add hyperlinks to sites I am visiting as well as images. It is also searchable.

I used to keep all of this stuff synced up in Outlook and used my Palm Pilot to capture ideas. I have been working on making more of my life bits accessible online from anywhere.
